How To Test The Strength Of Your Marriage-Day 1

I haven't posted since Wednesday and for good reason. I've spent the last few days beating my husband with my laptop instead. Ok, not really but I really wanted to. Remember I spoke about an upcoming surgery?

Well it happened. It was the 6th knee surgery I've been through with him. 3 on his right knee and this was his 3rd on the left. Oh if I ever thought the previous one's tested our bond oh how wrong I was.

This was supposed to be the most minor of all his previous surgeries. Haa haa....I will have words with his surgeon later.

Here is a rundown of how Thursday and Friday morning went.

0630-Wake up to get Lael ready for school

0720-Send Lael off on the school bus

0730-Lay down to go back to sleep

0800-Awaken by Mr. Crazy because he's too anxious to wait around the house

0930-Leave the house to head to his mom house who lives close to the clinic

(Note: FYI the surgery was scheduled for 1pm. Yes people, 1:00 PM)

1000- Hang out at his moms and decide we will leave at 12:10 for his appointment

1115- Decides he is still TOO ANXIOUS to sit around and would rather sit in clinic waiting room

1125-Get to clinic and wait....and wait....and wait.

1400- (Yes that's military time for 2pm) Finally go into surgery an hour late.

1500-Panic because I won't be able to pick up baby from bus stop (My dear friend helped! :o)

1700-Get Mr. Crazy home and settled with drugs and food. Leave to get my hair done.

Ok, so I'll pause here and repeat that he was fine. Alert, moving around and ENCOURAGED me to go and get my hair done. I'd be gone maybe 2 hours at the most.

1940-Get a call while my hair is being dried. "Just wanted to let you know I woke up and there was blood everywhere....don't worry though (insert name) is going to take me to the ER."

SERIOUSLY?!?

2020-Speed away from my friends (my hair was so cute...) and head to ER.

2045-Get to ER and send Lael with his friend to lay down and play role of the supportive wife.

1040-Get him home, pick up child, get her in bed (yes she was WIDE awake) proceed to sleep.

1130-Awaken to assist with a bathroom trip.

1240-Awaken to assist with a bathroom trip.

0130-Awaken to assist with a bathroom trip.

0250-Awaken to assist with a bathroom trip.

0330-Awaken to assist with a bathroom trip.

0445-Awaken to assist with a bathroom trip.

0515-Awaken to assist with a bathroom trip.

0630-Drag my zombie ass out of the bed to take Lael's tired ass to the bus stop.

Just wait until you see how the rest of Friday went..........

T-Time

Guess who's playing T-Ball? Yup, I sure am. What? You don't believe me?! Lael is making her way into this sport for the first time. She has done Ballet, Tap, Soccer, Basketball, Gymnastics and Cheerleading and now she it moving up to the "big leagues".

Monday was the first practice but because of all the rain we had to practice inside. Of course she's the only girl on her team and she makes that known with her black and pink glove that lights up every time she catches a ball, or throws it on the ground or punches someone with it, or...you get the point.

Her team is the Orioles. Cute little black and orange uniforms. I can't wait to fix her pigtails up with matching barrettes for her team photos this Saturday. I can't wait to see her run around the bases. I can't wait to be the best Team Mom that I can be. Ok, well maybe that part isn't true, but I really am excited.

All the kids got their uniforms Monday. A shirt, socks, pants and a hat. Cute indeed. I think she was a little excited...what yall think?

Separation Anxiety

I always knew that having a child while in the military would have some affect on Lael's mental stability.

I left her when she was 18 months old because I had to deploy to Iraq. While I spoke to her often, she was young and didn't understand mommy being away. I was gone a little over 4 months and she turned 2 a few weeks after my return.

When I returned she was very upset with me and for a short while only dealt with me in short bursts. A few weeks after my return she finally started to come back around.

I can't explain how guilty I felt but also glad that children are so forgiving. But once she latched back on to me she never. let. go.

Taking her to daycare became a nightmare. She would scream and cry and attach herself to my leg. She was afraid I would leave her there and not come back again.

She's 5 now but her attachment to me and her belongings has not loosened up. She get very upset when her sister leaves after her weekend visits. She looses her mind after a weekend with her grandparents. She has to have a kiss and hug EVERY. SINGLE. DAY before I leave for work and before she goes to bed. No exception. If she falls asleep without it she WILL wake up in the middle of the night to make it known and to correct the mistake. Recently her fish died and I don't think I can go through that type of trauma again.

But one of her biggest issues is getting rid of toys. I am not exaggerating when I say she has gotten rid of hardly ANYTHING she's ever gotten. I have managed to bag up things before her birthdays and Christmas but she manages to get them back before they go to Goodwill.

Sunday night I tried again to get her to go through her toys with me to find things we can donate.

(Note: If I get rid of them without her knowledge she notices...seriously. "Mom, what happened to my doll with the pink hair and green dress with 1 leg that I got from Suzie for my 3rd birthday that I left under the table 2 weeks ago". Yeah something like that. She notices.)

I pulled out some of the big toys.

She proceeded to climb in the toy box to get a closer look.

And this is all she could come up with.

I'm afraid her college fund will be used early for visits to the "happy" doctors. My child apparently has separation issues. And it's all my fault. :o)

Not All Posts Need To Make Sense

I know I have been completely behind on my bloggin'. I've been doing so many other things but I'm back now. And since this is my blog and I can do what I want I think I'll just list some random things.

*We had a T-ball meeting on Tuesday and the sports director suggested that parents get cups for the little boys. Lael leans over and whispers to me if I brought any cups with me and what we would be eating there. Hee hee hee.

*My husband has to have ANOTHER knee surgery next week and I'm not sure if I'll be able to restrain myself from strangling him to prevent having to "take care" of him during his recovery.

*Part of many things I've been dealing with is me transferring Lael to a new school this week. I have been nervous that I've made the wrong decision but so far so good.

*While I haven't worked out seriously in a few weeks I have lost weight by watching my carb intake and am very proud of myself. Thank you very much.

*I have began to stress because I need to find a new job and if I don't find a job myself, I may get orders to go somewhere I don't want to.

*It may be just me but something about the warm weather creeping in makes me nervous about my spring and summer wardrobe. I really need to go shopping.

Ahhh...that's better. Now everyone knows what's been floating around my head. Just about every bullet started off as a potential post but I got too lazy and that's that.

Tea Is A Cup Of Life

The girls were invited to their very first tea party yesterday.

Lael insisted that she had to wear her finest skirt to an event so special.

They wore their best indeed, purses included.

The menu included sugar cookies, strawberries, grapes, mini PB&J's and mini Ham and Cheese sandwiches cut up into perfect little squares.

When it was time for tea, all eyes were on the teapot. I love how Lael patiently waited for her to be poured.

After snacks and tea it was time to go on a super egg hunt. They were all over the place. I couldn't take pictures fast enough!

Every girl got a goody bag no matter how many eggs they found.

They had to guess how many jelly beans were in the jar and Lael was the closest. She one a gift card and said "I'm rich!"

To end things, they colored eggs and then rolled them around in glitter. The perfect end to perfect afternoon.

Trophies and Eggs

Friday and Saturday were fun days for Lael.

Friday night after working the LONGEST WEEK EVER. I got off late and had to rush to the Youth Center for her Sports Banquet. I was just as excited if not MORE than excited than Lael because it was my first time coaching a bunch of girls and it was Lael's first time having this type of ceremony.

All of the girls got trophies and for a few seconds there were no happier 5 and 6 year old girl on the planet.
****************************
Saturday morning was the annual Easter Egg hunt on base. I've taken Lael for the past 3 or 4 years. Every year has been a different experience for her. Here are picture from last year.

The first picture is Lael crying because she swore the Easter Bunny was looking at her. Yeah, she was TERRIFIED of that damn bunny. D (as usual) was happy as can be.

This year was a HUGE improvement. It's amazing the change that can occur in one year.

Happy Easter!

Phone Etiquette (Part 2)

Remember this post from last November? Well I'm ashamed to say that I still have not gotten an eye appointment and as much as I try to talk myself into it my eyes are NOT getting any better.

Thursday, I decided that I really needed to get myself down for an appointment. I dailed the same number as before and here is how the conversation went.

Her: Optometry Clinic can I help you? (In a whisper)

Me: Hello, I'd like to see if I can make an appointment for sometime this month.

Her: For what?

Silence.

Me: Ummm......my eyes. (What the hell else would I want the EYE DOCTOR to look?)

Her: Hold on. (grumble grumble)

{I hold for 5 minutes or so}

Her: What's your social?

Me: 123-45-6789

Her: Did you have an appointment scheduled on Bolling in December?

Me: Um, maybe I really don't recall but I'm sure I had to cancel because I haven't been seen.

Her: You can't be seen here, you have to go to Bolling.

Me: But I work HERE and I'm not assigned to Bolling.

Her: Well that's what it says here.

Me: But I've been SEEN at your clinic before so I don't understand.

Silence.

That's when I hung up and called Bolling who said they couldn't see me because I was assigned to the Pentagon. Sigh.

I did end up getting an appointment after explaining how I just TRIED to get one in the Pentagon.

I'll let yall know how that goes.
