I'll Make It Up To You

Dear Lael,

I’m sorry sweetheart. Mommy has to work. I know this is your first field trip as a 1st grader but I can’t take off of work. I know it’s hard for you to understand this but this is part of being an adult.

When you cry like that it breaks my heart. I am trying my best to balance out life and work but sometimes work wins. Understand that YOU do come first. But in order for you to come first I have to work to provide for you.

I know it may seem like I’m the ONLY parent that’s not coming but I assure you I’m not. I will make it up to you sweetheart.

Please dry your eyes. Mommy loves you and I will be thinking of you all day. Have a great day and pick the shiniest apple in the orchard just for me, mkay?

Love,

Mommy

  1. Breaks my heart....

It's this kind of stuff that makes me want to tell my job to "shove it." And then of course, promptly find a nice shack to live in.

  2. I totally get it. I had to miss my daughter's preschool field trip this week for a medical procedure and it totally broke my heart because my husband had to be with me and couldn't go in my place. One of my blog readers reassured me that she would be having fun, distracted by her classmates, and that seemed to be the case. I so hope you can attend the next trip!

  5. Oh man, I know exactly how you feel. And my youngest is 8. It doesn't really get easier, but I think we're all a little numb to it now. In the future, take pictures on the field trips you DO go on. Only talk about those! ;-)

  6. Oh lady, you are such an amazing mom. One day she'll understand because she does and always will know how madly in love with her you truly are.

    Peace to you.

  7. Oh, this gave me chills. My mom was a single working mom and could only come once in a blue moon. And I try to make all of my kids' trips but sometimes it's just not possible. She'll get it someday. ;)

  9. It's too bad that mother's miss out on a lot of things or events. I always use to whine about those things when my mother didnt come to some event i had.

  10. Oh, this breaks my heart. I am a SAHM but I do not go on all the field trips, merely because we are just assigned a few. My daughter couldn't understand this and I told her that I had to share the field trips with the other moms and that I would go on the next one. It seemed to pacify things for a little bit.
