I remember telling you guys about my decision to keep Lael in the school I transferred her to in April. I even remember expressing her teachers concerns for her maturity level.
I worry.
I made it a point to try to work with her this summer. Keep her involved with other kids when her sister wasn’t around.
I worry.
I worked on teaching her how to deal with her problems in a mature type of way. The whining and tantrums just wouldn’t cut it anymore.
I worry.
I let her swim, play, watch tv most of the summer but the reverted to getting her back into the swing of math, spelling and reading. She seems to be doing great but still….
I worry.
She will still be 5 when most of the other kids will have just turned 6. Will she feel the difference?
I worry.
School will start in 4 days. I think I am more nervous that I was when she started Pre-K. 1st grade is a big deal. Right?
I worry.
Oh dear god, I worry. I pray. I hope. I love. I cry. I decide. I have faith.
I think I made the right decision. I think she is ready. There is nothing I can do right now but hold my breath and let her go.
But still……
I worry.

I totally understand your concerns. My kids are much older, but things still haven't really changed for me. I think we'll always worry! Coming at you from SITS...Happy Thursday!
ReplyDeleteI'm a worrier as well and I sometimes try to look at is as being good at planning ahead. My husband is the exact opposite and is content to wait and see if a problem comes up and then scrambles to think of what to do. Me? I have 5 solutions to the non-existent problem already dreamed up. First grade is a huge leap---hoping things fall in to place in the first few weeks of school to give you some reassurance!
ReplyDeleteErr...didn't mean to be anonymous.

That's what we mom's do best--worry. It's only natural.
ReplyDeleteWorry is pretty much all I do....and I'm not even a mother yet.
ReplyDeleteIf you didn't have anything to worry about, life would be no fun. Sounds like you're doing a great job.
Oh - you worry too. Our worry genes should get together and hang out for a bit and leave us the frick alone.
ReplyDeleteMy 6YO is going into 1st Grade this year and I'm petrified. I feel like it all starts here.
Like Kindergarten was the practice run and this is the real deal.
Lael has an amazing support system at home and because of that, she will be awesome, no matter what she does.
But that's our job --to worry, what else would we do? :)
ReplyDeleteI teach so I feel ok saying this...
ReplyDeleteignore the teacher who was worried about her maturity especially if she was young/childless.
I think your daughter will do great!!
I'm totally with you on the worrying. Mine started 1st grade yesterday. I'm sure she is going to be fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteMy Weston starts kindergarten this year too and I'm a worry mama too. Lets hope we both can ge thru this!
ReplyDeleteI take it back!! I don't wanna be a mom and worry!! :P Just kidding.
ReplyDeleteI think she will do perfectly fine!!! Well, it's better to worry than not to worry at all, no?
Btw your post really ryhtmed. :O
It's hard not to worry when we anticipate. But at least it will get better.
ReplyDeleteRight? Tell me it will get better...
